QUICK ANSWERS

The questions we get every week

Do you only work with artists or tradespeople?

Nope. While we've built a solid rep in the tattoo, beauty, and trades industries, we work with businesses of all shapes and sizes. Whether you're running a creative hustle, a tech startup, or a multi-location operation, our services are built to scale with you.

Do you work with people in my state?

Absolutely. We work with clients all across the U.S., no matter what state you're in. Everything we do can be handled remotely, but we also travel to meet clients in person when it makes sense.

If you're not a CPA, can you still do my taxes?

Yep. We're federally authorized tax preparers, which means we can file taxes for clients in any state.

What kind of bookkeeping services do you offer?

We handle everything from monthly income and expense tracking to organizing receipts, reconciling bank accounts, and prepping for tax season.

Do you help set up an LLC or business structure?

100%. We help you figure out the best setup for your situation, whether that's an LLC, S Corp, or sole prop. It all depends on how you work, what you earn, and where you're trying to go.

How much do your services cost?

We don't do one-size-fits-all pricing. Everything depends on what you need. But we're always upfront, fair, and flexible. No surprise invoices.

Can you help if I'm behind on taxes or bookkeeping?

Hell yes. We work with plenty of clients who are playing catch-up, whether it's a year or five years behind. No judgment. Just a game plan.

Do I need to be a full-time business owner?

Not at all. Side hustlers, part-timers, full-timers, you name it. If you're earning money from your skills, we'll help you manage it like a business.

What does "fractional" mean?

It means you get a real financial team, just not full-time. Instead of hiring an in-house CFO or controller and putting them on payroll, we step in part-time to handle your strategy, planning, and financial leadership. You get the brains of a full finance department without the overhead. It's built for businesses that are growing fast but aren't ready to hire full-time.

What's the difference between a CFO and a Controller?

Short version: a CFO is the strategist, a Controller is the operator. The CFO focuses on forecasting, long-term planning, and big-picture financial strategy. The Controller keeps your books accurate, your reporting clean, and your internal systems running tight. Some businesses need one, some need both. We'll help you figure out which fits.

What's the difference between tax planning and tax prep?

Tax prep is getting your return filed. Clean, accurate, on time. Tax planning is the year-round strategy that makes sure you're not blindsided when filing season hits. It's knowing what to set aside, what moves to make before the year ends, and how to keep more of what you earn. We do both, and honestly, the planning part is where the real money gets saved.

Do I need to pay quarterly taxes?

If you're self-employed (and that includes most tattoo artists renting a booth, freelancers, and independent contractors) the IRS expects you to pay estimated taxes four times a year. Miss one and they'll hit you with penalties and interest. The deadlines are April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15. We can help you figure out exactly what to set aside so you're not guessing.

What can I write off as a business expense?

More than you probably think. Supplies, equipment, booth rent, travel to conventions, lodging, marketing, business phone, software subscriptions, continuing education, vehicle mileage... it all counts if you track it properly. The key is documentation. Save receipts, keep invoices, and note the purpose of each expense. We help you build a system so nothing slips through the cracks.

How does the referral program work?

For every client you refer, you both get 10% off your next Tax Prep. Uncapped. Refer 10 people and your tax prep is 100% free. Just send us their name and contact info through the contact form, or have them mention your name when they reach out.

What happens after I reach out?

You drop your info, and we get back to you within 48 hours. Usually much sooner. From there, we set up a free consultation to talk through your situation, figure out what you actually need, and put together a plan. No pressure, no hard sell. Just a real conversation about where you are and how we can help.

I rent a booth at a shop. Am I self-employed?

If you're paying booth rent and you're not on payroll with a W-2, then yes, you're self-employed. The shop isn't withholding taxes for you. Booth rent is a business expense for you, not a payroll deduction. A lot of artists fall into this trap. The good news? We know exactly how to set this up so you're not scrambling come tax time.

What's the Prosperity Project?

The Prosperity Project is our hands-on financial education program built for artists, shop owners, and tradespeople. It's not a lecture. It's a working session where you leave with checklists, templates, and realistic next steps. We cover income planning, expense tracking, deductions, quarterly taxes, pricing, and building an emergency fund. Follow us on social media for the next event near you.

Do I really need to separate my business and personal bank accounts?

Yes. This is the number one mistake we see. If you're running everything through one account, you're setting yourself up for confusion, missed deductions, and potential trouble with the IRS. Get a separate business checking account and run all your business expenses through it. It keeps your records clean, makes bookkeeping way easier, and helps you see the real picture of what your business earns.
